Voltage Regulator

Hi reader,

Welcome to my post. In this post, I'll tell you about
•What is a voltage regulator IC
•How a voltage regulator IC work
•What are the uses of voltage regulators IC.

The first point, what is a voltage regulator IC?
It is a 3 pin IC which is having a heat dissipation plate that is thermally protected. As a huge amount of voltage flows in its input terminal.

It is of two (2) types positive voltage regulator and negative voltage regulator, for the +ve voltage regulator it has 78xx series.
where xx can be 03,05,06,09,12,15,25 volts. Similarly for -ve voltage regulator it has 79xx series and same voltage ranges mentioned above for +ve voltage regulator.

So coming to the second point, How a voltage regulator IC work?
In this voltage regulator IC when you have given an unregulated DC voltage at its input terminal you always get a constant output from its output pin.

Unregulated DC voltage means the input can be varied in a certain range like, for example:
I have taken a voltage regulator IC 7805 i.e. of 5V
The input can be varied from 5v-12v the input must be DC Voltage and you'll get an output voltage of 5v.

Here comes the circuit diagram:

Here is the link for this circuit, click here

Here are some pictures while placing components of this regulator:

In the below picture I have been connecting the 100uF capacitor +ve terminal with 1st pin/Input pin of 5V Regulator.

Here I am going to place the components in this position on a breadboard.

Components placed on the breadboard.

And now I am going to show you the working of this regulator.

These Regulator circuits are used in most electronic devices. In development boards, programming boards, CPU's, etc.

And this is the final output of this 5v regulator.

.....Thanks for reading.....
